Health Director’s Message
I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! As we all know the New Year is a time for change and we have seen a bit of this at end of 2011.
The First Nations Health Authority and The First Nations Health Council were formed and they will move forward to help us with a governance model that will be community driven and Nation based.
Looking back we realize that the Health Centre has now been in Health Transfer for 12 years. This means that we have been managing our health programs and the funding that is provided by Health Canada. Not only has our Health Centre seen many changes but we are hoping to expand our services and discussions for a new Health Centre are underway.
I would like to raise my hands and thank all of the community members who have used our health services over the past year in; patient transportation, counseling, attending groups, home support and home care and attending all our community events.
Alice Padgham Community Health Nurse and staff are working together with Kw'umut Lelum and staff to provide a "Traditional Baby Welcoming Ceremony" to honor the New babies born in year 2011. Ba-by welcoming is a ceremony tailored to reflect the honoring of new babies and the plans for this excit-ing event are underway and scheduled to take place in April 2012. On a sad note, Alice will be leaving her job as our Community Health Nurse at the end of March.
Bridget White, CHR with the assistance from health staff has a very successful Elders luncheon every Thursday. Nutritious lunches, blood pressure checks, and blood sugar testing takes place every Thurs-day in the Health Centre kitchen.
Receptionist Leslee Wyse, is the cheerful voice on the phone when you call the Health Centre. If you would like to inquire about any of our programs, please call our front desk.
The Breakfast Club has seen a decrease in numbers after Christmas with a lot of viruses going around. Please remember to let us know if your child has any allergies that Rachael, our cook should be aware of.
Please note that, all prescription renewals cannot be done at a drop- in clinic. You have to make an appointment to see your family Doctor for renewals.
"One resolution that I always try to keep-- is to rise above the little things".
